The Write On Story

Thump! Thump! Thump went my foot as I walked through the bitter cold forest.  I thought to myself, what is that? It appeared to be tucked under some tangled vines in the middle of a root.  As I got closer, it began to glimmer as the sun struck it through the enormously large trees.  Right away, I began to feel scared because I didn't know what it was or who it belonged to.   I knew I had to get a closer look because I was so eager to find out exactly what it could be.

Walking slowly toward the magnificent shiny object I became more and more curious. Could it be a gem? Is it valuable? It looked to be fragile and delicate. A familiar beeping noise could also be heard. The closer I came to it the noisier it became. Silver buttons flashed as I approached. Smoke billowed out from the open hole on top. As I began to untangle it from the vines something scary happened

As I reached down a green, slimy liquid oozed out of the sides. It felt as hot as a meteor plummeting to the Earth from the sun. It was spinning like a tornado. What could this be?  I looked closely and fainted.  When I finally regained consciousness, I realized that it was a mini spaceship! There was a swarm of aliens standing on my chest with tiny spoons and forks in their hands.

All of a sudden, I freaked out and screamed, “AAAAAAHHH – get off!” I jumped up, flicked the last alien off my shoulder, and started to sprint. I bolted as fast as I could! As I looked back, I saw this massive mutant animal with fangs, green fur, and a club-like tail.

I went towards the river. I had a brilliant idea – I remembered in my past Science class that aliens can’t swim. The invaders were on the exotic looking animal’s back, and it looked like they were riding a horse. I was running too fast, so I slowed down to let them catch up. I acted as if I was scared of them getting too close and purposely fell into the river. The vicious creature jumped in, too. All the aliens fell off into the icy, raging rapids of the river and began to sink.

I couldn’t stand to watch the miniature, helpless things drown, so I scooped them up into my hand. They exclaimed, “Thank you!” in their squeaky, robotic voices. “We are sorry for trying to eat you.” Then they explained how their planet was in total chaos, and how it was too close to the Sun. It was too hot for their inflammable skin, and their crops all burned to ashes. “Since we don’t know the planet, we thought YOU were nourishment.”

“Maybe I can help you – I can get you a meal. But how are we going to get there?” I asked in a friendly voice.

“How about we go back and repair our transportation so we can get there quickly?”

After a few hours of work, they completed the odd U.F.O. in between snacking on honeysuckle and wild berries. “Let’s go eat some real, satisfying food now,” I suggested to the genial aliens.

As we hovered over the golden arches of McDonald’s in their speedy spaceship, we teleported down into the lobby of the restaurant. The martians ordered 101 kids’ meals with Madagascar toys and got 3 Big Macs for their pet. “MMMMMMMM,” they said, “this smells delicious!” In a flash, the doors flew open and F.B.I. agents dangled from ropes on the ceiling and surrounded us. “Put your hands up!” they shrieked with fear.

“Freeze! We have you surrounded!  Drop everything and don’t move a muscle!”

“You’ll never stop us, we’re invincible!!” they squealed in a chorus of high pitched voices. Then the aliens went as crazy as a kid that had eaten sugar for 24 hours.  Both aliens and people screamed commands as humans, creatures, and french fries all darted in every direction.

    “Attack the big monsters!”

“Get the aliens before they take over the world!”

During the confusion, one of the aliens took a whole bottle of ketchup and squirted it on the window.  When the bottle was emptied, the mirror image of the word “Attack” was clearly visible.  More and more aliens appeared.  Suddenly there was a deafening screech.  “EEEEEK!!! Get that flea infested rat away from me!!!” Everybody turned to face the direction the noise came from.  It was a woman standing on a chair surrounded by aliens on enormous rats.  The FBI and the aliens ignored her and returned to what they had been doing.  When an alien bumped into the fryer, it turned on and lit on fire.

“Oh no, the sun has come to destroy us all!!” was heard above the ruckus.

I tried to stop the panic and yelled, “Don’t worry!  It’s not the sun, you’re all going to live!”  They all stared at me as if I was insane. Somewhere, somehow, an alien snuck in the back door with his happy meal box.  Inside was a sticky, gummy, bubble blower.  Bubbles invaded and the FBI agents got stuck in the bubble mess.  Then another alien got out a Freeze Ray and froze them inside the bubbles.  This gave us a chance to eat.  We devoured our long awaited meal and escaped while the FBI watched from behind their bubble shield.

After four days of continual travel, we arrived on Planet X.  The aliens started screaming in fear when they tried to exit the UFO so I asked what was wrong.  They explained that they lived on the planet Zooneela and this was not it.  How did we end up here?

Once they calmed down, we took a look around.  The aliens were hungry again and we needed to search for some food.  I wasn’t sure how much we would locate--it was pitch black and freezing cold!  I realized we were light years away from what used to be Pluto.  When I told them, they screamed with delight, “We will never see the sun!” and danced around.

I peered past them out into the dark. “Oh no,” I whispered, grabbing hold of the nearest boogieing being. “Look!”

Through the darkness of a red, slime covered cave, I spied two terrifying yellow eyes. The eyes began to get bigger and bigger as I realized they were coming closer. Understanding that I needed the aliens' attention, I reached for the UFO's bullhorn and shouted, "Attention! There is a pair of lightening yellow eyes coming towards us!"

Out of the darkness, the figure slowly crept into the beams of the UFo's  headlights. All at once, we realized it was a mountain lion-like creature that was six feet tall with foaming saliva dripping from his fangs. The aliens froze in their tracks and looked to me and then to the creature. As the beast slowly walked forward, I remembered another science lesson where my teacher told me that mountain lions are afraid of looking cute. Quickly, I took the ribbon out of my hair. Zeelo, the captain of the UFO, appeared with a freeze ray. Blue zig zags shot like lightening out of the ray gun. The mountain lion was frozen in his steps. I crept over to the still creature. Then, I carefully tied the ribbon into a bow around his neck.

"Zeelo, while this may be a perfect planet for your people, I need to get back to Earth."  One tiny alien came forward and volunteered to take me back.  The rest of the aliens started tying up the creature and settled into the cave.  The alien and I jumped into the spaceship and headed back to Earth.  As we started to fly, I peered out the gleaming window and saw a giant meteeor.  I gripped the wheel and used all my strength to turn it.  The meteor had flames coming off of it and tiny bits of rock were  flying through the air.  I veered the spaceship left and felt relief when it looked like we were safely away from the meteor.  Pogo (my alien companion) gave me a thumbs up sign and said,"Do not worry friend, I will have you home in no time!"  Pogo pressed a large red button and everything outside the spaceship became a blur.  In what seemed like the blink of an eye, the space ship slowed down and we were looking at a huge blue and green ball.  Pogo throttled down and motioned me to a little white escape pod.  "This pod will get you back into the Earth's atmosphere without burning up.  You drive it just like you drive your go-cart.  I have programmed it to take you back to your home.  Good luck Earthling."  I shook Pogo's little green hand and told him to come visit me anytime.  I jumped in the white pod and headed back to Earth.  Earth slowly came into view.  What was once only blues and greens became specific places.  I saw the pyramids of Egypt.  Wow!  The Eifel Tower of Paris, France. The pod flew over miles of water until I saw the Statue of LIberty.  Then it headed south.  Mountains and rivers soared below me.  The pod started slowing down and I caught of glimpse of Cinderella's castle at Disney World.  We were getting close to home.  I slowed the pod down as Raymond James Stadium came into view.  Thousands of people were filling up the stadium.  Today's the Super Bowl I shouted with excitement!  I took one more spin around the stadium and almost ran into the Goodyear Blimp.  Pogo was right steering the pod was as easy as riding my go-cart.  I landed in the park at Picnic Island.  I was less than three minutes from my house.  I jumped out of the pod and started yelling with delight!  Yeah!  I ran to the house....In the cozy dining room, my parents sat frozen.

“What happened!?” I cried out.

The way my parents were positioned reminded me of the mountain lion that had been frozen by my alien friend, Zeelo. I sprinted outside, and found that all of my neighbors were frozen as well. I then spotted the aliens and ran into the city hoping to escape and find safety. The aliens followed me into the city, and I found in the alley that I had headed toward led me into a dead end. I was trapped, and I saw Zeelo.

”You traitor!” I yelled.

“I did what I had to,” replied Zeelo, “This planet of yours is quite nice with perfect atmosphere and liquid water.”

I started sobbing, my feelings hurt by his betrayal. Suddenly the alien space ship spun around, zoomed off, and all of a sudden hundreds of alien ships were flying over the city. Quickly, I fled into a subway station and hid while I heard the explosions of buildings being destroyed.  Bricks were falling over the subway. The people had been suddenly unfrozen by Zeelo’s freeze ray, and they were fleeing. Screams rang throughout the city as the citizens saw the destruction.

“Fair game is fair play,” announced Zeelo from the spaceship’s intercom. I started crying again, feeling helpless, as I realized what Zeelo had meant. I knew that the subway station would be destroyed soon, so I dashed back to the place where I had first found the aliens, hoping to find something to use against them.

I kept thinking, "fair game is fair game!" What were they thinking? Was that a hint! A secret message or perhaps they thought they had the best of us. I jumped over the school yard fence and said, "I wish I could be the highest jumper in the world." Just then I leaped 50 feet into the air! I jumped right over the area where I first saw the aliens. I said, "I wish I could have magnified sight! Just then I could see the tiniest creatures crawling on the ground. I said, "I wish I could have the best hearing in the universe." Then I could hear the creatures speaking and they said, " The Zooneelans will be evaporated if we touch them." I shouted to the tiny creatures, "I will bring you to the Zooneelanians so that you can melt them." The entire village of tiny creatures crawled into my front shirt pocket. I jumped back to where I left the Zooneelians. I made one last wish, " I wish the tiny creatures could land on the Zooneelians." They flew out of my pocket and immediately the Zooneelians melted! We were the victors! Fair game is fair game!

We liked how you started with a sound word. We noticed lots of suspense in this first paragraph.

We are so excited to begin this project! It is great to see how classes in other parts of the U.S. learn the same important steps in writing. You have impressed us with your "snazzy" sentences. :) Mrs. Boreman's class, Pennsylvania

We enjoyed reading your addition to the story this morning. It is so creative! Here are some of the things that we especially liked: the descriptions, vocabulary words, dialogue, action and the part about McDonald's and the FBI. What fun!
